The Rheinhessen is Germany’s largest wine region with gently rolling hills with a mixture of soils ranging from sand and gravel to red-slate sand and clay. It is also the birthplace of Liebfraumilch, “milk of Our Dear Lady,” originally made from grapes grown in vineyards surrounding the Liebfrauenkirche, or Church of Our Lady in Worms.
