2008 Carmenere

89 Points “This plays off the fruitier side of Carmenère in its ripe raspberry aromas and flavors supported by juicy acidity, while the variety's herbal notes remain in the background. Its soft fruit flavors will match braised rabbit.” Wine & Spirits Magazine May 2011

Tasting Notes

This Carmenere is full bodied with aromas of black plums, orange peel, and black pepper. The finish is long and lingering with soft tannins and flavors of dried plums, ripe blackberries and toasted hazelnuts. This is an excellent everyday value for Chilean wine fans.

Vineyard & Winemaking Notes

the grapes are 100% estate grown and hand harvested from the bisquertt vineyards of las garzas, chomedahue, lihueimo, rinconada, casas viejas, el rulo, and trinidad. each vineyard has their own distinctive micro-climate contributing subtle nuances and complexity. the colchagua valley is heavily influenced by its close proximity to the pacific ocean, resulting in cool nights and dry sunny days creating the optimal growing conditions. the soils are alluvial with excellent drainage. the wine is stainless steel fermented and aged 10-12 months in french and american oak. then it is cold stabilized and filtered before bottling. after bottling, it is stored in the cellars four to six months before being released.
