Characteristics:
Sauvignon Blanc: Flavors of fresh, juicy grapefruit and gooseberry flavors with a rich lingering finish.
Chardonnay: Fresh, crisp citrus taste. A virtual balance beam of flavors and acidity with a long yet crisp finish.
Pinot Noir: Its nose is reminiscent of red berries, plums and black cherries. This soft, yet rich wine gives way to black cherry and red berry flavors with a soft, lingering finish.
Food Pairings:
Sauvignon Blanc: Pairs well with salads, seafood, scallops and spicy cuisine.
Chardonnay: Serve as an aperitif, with chicken, salads, or seafood.
Pinot Noir: This is an excellent food wine pairing well with poultry, fish and cheese. Although made for early consumption, it will cellar comfortably for 2-4 years.
Wine Growing Conditions:
Marlborough is located on the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island on the strait between the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. It is an area ideal for the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Sunshine is abundant with cool nights. Add in the long growing season and Overstone brings you a vibrant Sauvignon Blanc. Early morning harvest and cool fermentation with a range of yeast types in stainless steel retain the aromatic fruit characters. This wine is bottled young to preserve the fresh, lively style.
Overstone produces fine wine from two vineyards in Hawke’s Bay. The Unoaked Chardonnay is grown further inland, on a dry river gravel terrace 100 metres higher in altitude. The cooler vineyard site produces New Zealand’s best Chardonnay grapes and provide ideal flavor development for Pinot Noir grapes. Reflecting this care and attention in the vineyard, Overstone wines are hand-crafted by a team of experienced winemakers to produce rich, soft approachable wines of exceptional quality.
