Casa La Joya Reserves
The "Reserve" series, so named, is to be reserved for special occasions or to bring something special to your everyday. The Casa La Joya Reserve series boasts numerous recognitions, including a Gold Medal at the 2004 Vinalies Internationales in Paris.
Characteristics & Food Pairings
Sauvignon Blanc: With flowers on the nose, and crisp acidity of apples and citrus on the palate. Great with fish and salads.
Chardonnay: Full of tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and ripe banana with delicate buttery notes and a creamy finish. Match with white meats and cheeses.
Merlot and Shiraz: Offering smooth tannins and tastes of ripe berry fruit, with hints of mint and vanilla. The added spice to the Shiraz, especially, makes it a great match for barbeque.
Carmenere and Malbec: As for the Old World French varietals, the Carmenere offers herbaceous and spicy vanilla notes with low acidity while the Malbec offers a subtle toasted nut quality. Both pair well with grilled meats, tapas, and strong cheeses.
Cabernet: A classic Colchaguan, with rich blackcurrant, eucalyptus, and coffee flavors, accented by smoky, toasty oak and tannin. This is a superb match with rich red meats, especially steak.
Wine Growing Conditions
The Reserves are barrel aged at least 6 months for more resonant, deeper flavors.
Like the other La Joya wine tiers, La Joya’s Reserves were tilled in the Regiones Vitivinicolas (RV) of Rapel, in the famed Colchagua Valley. Hugging the shores of the Tinguiririca River, Colchagua is a unique, horseshoe shaped transverse valley that runs east and west, linking the Andes Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
The grapes enjoy an ideal microclimate here, of sun-scorched days tempered by tepid breezes blowing directionally east through the valley from the Pacific. Cabernet, Merlot, and Carmenere grapes thrive especially well in these areas of deep, loamy soil and warm, dry climate.
