Wine Growing Conditions Bordeaux, originally bord d’eau (side of the water), was a marsh until Dutch canals established the tributary of what is now the Gironde River.
Today, Bordeaux has a temperate climate ideally suited to grape growing—having the advantage of the Atlantic Gulf Stream to cool the land, and a pine forest barrier between the sea and vineyards to protect it from storms and salt. The clay and limestone soil here stresses the vines producing fewer grapes and intensely earthy, richly flavorful wines.
Augey blends and bottles their Red Bordeaux and White Bordeaux at their chateau in Entre-Deux-Mers, an area nestled between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers known for fantastic Bordeaux wine values.
