Torlasco
The first productions of Torlasco wines were consumed with family and friends during special lunches and occasions. Everyone enjoyed the wines so much that in 1999 Torlasco was established.
Torlasco is named after Madame Rachele Torlasco Bosca, a local vineyard owner from Oltrepo Pavese and mother of Giovanni Bosca, owner of Tosti sparkling wines.
The fun friendly gatherings were the inspiration for the Torlasco wine labels. Each label is based on celebrated characters from Northern Italy.
Donna Rachele lit up the upper-class lounges of Piedmont, Italy at the beginning of the 19th century. The aura that Donna Rachele emanated was also due to a particular scent that would follow her, a sort of unforgettable, distinct and iridescent perfume. She also had an innate passion for different aromas and fragrances of many plants, herbs and fruits.
Donna Rachele’s charisma soon enchanted a wealthy land owner. He was so enamored by Donna Rachele, that he gave her a piece of land near the Asti Province. After receiving this generous gift of land in Canelli, Donna Rachele pursued her dream of growing grapes and making wine. She dedicated the rest of her life to the aromatic Moscato grape.
With the first vintage of Moscato, Donna Rachele achieved a unique and delicate aroma. From then on Donna Rachele became “Madame Rachele”, the woman of Moscato. Torlasco Moscato d’Asti celebrates this lovely and eccentric woman.
Sir Arthur Edward may have been an English traveler who learned to speak broken Italian from the pages of Dante, however when it came to wines, his Italian was perfect.
Sir Arthur had a great nose for all of the exceptional wines from Europe. During his travels, when he came across Racele Torlasco’s Oltrepo Pavese vineyard, Sir Arthur decided it was the perfect site to grow Pinot for himself.
The first harvest overseen by Sir Arthur produced such an elegant and well structured Pinot that it truly expressed the intense thinking and refined soul of its maker. His wines were so exceptional that it created quite a stir in the region, and Sir Arthur became known as Mr. Pinot.
